Hemp milk

Hemp milk is a nutritious and vegan alternative to cow's milk. It can be easily made at home with just a few ingredients. Here are two different recipes:

Version 1 – Roasted hemp seeds

Ingredients:

  • 1 part hemp seeds or shelled hemp seeds

  • 3 parts water

  • a pinch of salt or sweetener (e.g. sugar or syrup)

Manufacturing:

  1. Roast the hemp seeds in a dry pan until they start to smell and gain some color.

  2. Add water and blend the mixture with a hand blender.

  3. Strain the finished hemp milk and use as a drink, in smoothies or coffee.

👉 Tip: The crushed seeds left in the sieve can be used in baking, porridge or veggie patties.

Version 2 – From soaked hemp seeds

Ingredients:

  • 5 dl water

  • about 1 dl hemp seeds

  • a pinch of salt and sweetener (e.g. sugar, agave syrup or maple syrup)

Manufacturing:

  1. Soak unroasted hemp seeds for 12 hours and rinse.

  2. Grind the seeds with water in a blender as finely as possible.

  3. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve and season to taste.

👉 Tip: Hemp milk will keep in the refrigerator for about two days. The remaining crushed seeds are suitable for use in bread roll dough or steaks, for example.
