Hemp butter is a rich and nutritious spread that is easily made from roasted hemp seeds. It is a great domestic alternative to nut butter – a rich source of protein, fiber and good fat. What makes it especially interesting is the omega-3 content provided by camelina oil or canola oil.
Ingredients:
-
2 dl hemp seeds or shelled hemp seeds
-
0.75 dl cold-pressed rapeseed oil or camelina oil (omega-3 oil)
-
1.25 dl water
-
less than 0.5 teaspoon salt
Manufacturing:
-
Toast the hemp seeds in a dry pan, stirring constantly, until they start to smell and even “pop” a little. Immediately transfer the seeds from the hot pan to a bowl to prevent them from burning.
-
Add water, oil and salt.
-
Blend with a hand blender until the mixture becomes smooth and spreadable.
👉 Hemp butter is great as a spread on bread, on top of porridge, or as part of smoothies. It also works as a dip for vegetables and adds protein and good fatty acids to your diet.
Tip: You can also make hemp milk from the same hemp seeds in a ratio of 1:3 (seeds:water). The crushed seeds left after sieving are excellent for baking, porridge or veggie patties.
